The Rules are Changing in Scotland

Did you know that by February 2022, all Scottish homes must be in line with the smoke alarm regulations?
Originally scheduled for 2021 the date has been pushed back to give all homeowners and landlords a chance to get compliant with their properties.

The new standard requires:

  • one smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes
  • one smoke alarm in every circulation space on each story, such as hallways and landings
  • one heat alarm installed in every kitchen

All alarms should be mounted on the ceiling and interlinked.

Is my home included or are there any exceptions? 

There are no exceptions to the rule, ALL HOMES will be subject to these new standards of compliance. It is your responsibility as the property owner to make sure your home meets the new standard.
Your smoke alarms must be interlinked for your own safety, so if your current smoke alarms are not interlinked you will need to get them replaced and interlinked.
