WHAT IS LEGIONNAIRE’S DISEASE?
Legionella is a bacteria that thrives in water systems, including domestic water supplies in the UK.
Plumbing systems can allow for the growth of this bacteria if they contain improper fittings, appliances and materials.
Legionnaire’s disease arises when the bacteria infects a persons lungs which can lead to flu-like symptoms, chest pains and breathing difficulties. It is a serious disease with between 10-15% of people dieing from a result of contracting the disease.
HOW TO MINIMIZE LEGIONELLA RISK
Minimize how much water is sprayed into the air.
Make sure your water systems are kept clean.
Make sure your plumbing systems have been installed correctly.
Get your property tested often.
